Thursday, 28 May 2009: Who are we kidding?
.........................................................................................................................................................................................................
So yeah, honestly now... Annual updates? Ten releases in six years, the last of which has been out for a year but not available for mailorder on this very website? Really? I think it's time to call it a day. Actually, we kinda called it a day a while ago, but never really had time to update this site to let anyone know. Typical, right? So here's the official word on what's up:
Say & Stay Said has officially run its course. We started this thing as a sort of hobby label so that we could get some records out there that probably wouldn't have existed otherwise. The first two 7" releases happened before Best Friends Forever or Everybell had even played a show, so there was literally nobody paying attention to anything we were doing when we started doing it. So, to go from that to having people order things from us at a pretty steady pace, or sending in demo tapes and cds, or asking about tours, or having Plan-It-X take notice and rerelease all the BFF stuff, all that stuff that happened just because we decided to put these bands out "in the world" feels really good.
That said, we also ultimately figured out that having a record label (however small) and all that that entails isn't something that we're really good at. I've always been terrible about sending out mailorders on time (sorry to everybody that's ever had to wait on that), and a lot of the seemingly invisible work that real labels do, like working to get press and dealing with radio and whatever else, just doesn't happen here. We don't have a release schedule, and as much as we've appreciated demos that people send in (seriously, thank you), we don't have any sort of budget with which to do anything about anything. I'm not even going to blame it on the recession...we sucked at this way before that was a big deal.
Moving forward, here's some news:
Plan-It-X has rerelease the first Best Friends Forever cd ep...as a bonus, it also has their side of the BFF/Terrorclops split tape and the songs from their half of the BFF/Everybell split 7". You can probably order it from them. As for our version of the cd that comes with fewer songs and the hand-printed packaging and all of that, we only have a handful of them left, so they're unofficially out of stock, I guess. The new thing is a lot cheaper anyway.
The Everybell/Wildcat split 7" will be available soon from the Landland site, along with the remaining copies of the decembers architects full-length and whatever copies are left of the Everybell cds. I just have to get all the Paypal stuff taken care of, which I'm obviously kind of terrible about. Hopefully soon.
There's some other news, but it's like three in the morning right now, so I'm just going to wrap this up and fill in the rest once I've got it all together. Or maybe not. I hope that's cool.
Could someone get the lights on the way out?
Thanks,
Dan

Thursday, 04 April 2008: We Indexhibited this thing / New Stuff!
.........................................................................................................................................................................................................
Welcome to the new Say & Stay Said site. It's an Indexhibit thing, which should make it easier for me to update, and it looks better than the old one, and I'm excited about it.
Also! We have some new releases coming up. The first of which is the Everybell / Wildcat Revival split 7" (SSS-010), which should be out by the last weekend in April. We're having a release show for it on Saturday, April 26th at the First Amendment Gallery in NE Minneapolis as part of the opening for Aesthetic Apparatus' art show. It will be free, and all ages, and Wildcat Revival and Everybell will play. There should be more information about this show here soon, or check the MySpace pages or whatever people do to find out about things.
The other stuff is way more tentative, but I will say that we're finally going to release a compilation, and we're finally going to get around to releasing a bunch of really old stuff that we've been sitting on for literally longer than the label has been around.
Oh yeah, Everybell and BFF were both on a compilation a little bit ago called "Minnesota Migration." It was for Modern Radio's day party at SXSW. There's probably a few copies floating around town now, but most of them were dispersed all over Texas. The Everybell song on it is a re-recording of "Our Sea Legs" that came from the new Everybell practice space recording set-up, and it's also up on the MySpace page right now.
Ok. That's pretty much it. I'm going to be adding some new information to some of the other sections here and there, but probably won't make a big fuss about it.
Yeah!
-Dan-

Sunday, 30 December 2007: LANDLAND > 2222 .........................................................................................................................................................................................................
So! We've been hard at work, but not with Say & Stay Said stuff, I guess...In the months since the last update, we've finished up the LANDLAND screenprinting space, and the accompanying website where you can buy all sorts of posters made by people like Dan Black & Jes Seamans. Actually, all of the Best Friends Forever posters on there are pretty much sold out, but there are some other older posters that hadn't been available until now, and some newer posters for shows by people like The Mountain Goats and Calvin Johnson. Anyway, here's the link to the Official LANDLAND site. For people that might have been paying attention for the past few years, Landland is pretty much the same thing as what we were doing with the 2222 Screenprint Facility, except that now we have a real studio space, a slightly less confusing name, and no pesky day jobs to get in the way of all the fun.
In other news, we finally got the order button fixed for the Bri-entering the Bratmosphere cassette, so order away...between the copies Bri sold on tour and the creative orders I got online while the store was down, there really aren't a lot of these things left. Just sayin'.
As for our bands, here's what's up:
• Best Friends Forever had a gigantic summer tour, and a sorta "last show before hiatus" show, but it looks like the hiatus isn't going to last as long as we thought...there are a couple shows set up for January, and probably a bunch after that, including a trip to Austin in March for some music festival. The "Romance Conflict Adventure" cds have almost sold out of the first pressing over at Plan-It-X Records, so make sure to grab one of those if you haven't already. We should have some copies of it here pretty shortly too.
• Everybell & Whistle went on tour in September, all the way down to Birmingham, Alabama to hang out with the very amazing WILDCAT REVIVAL.The tour was ridiculously awesome...Tim put some photos up here, and as soon as I'm not so lazy we'll have some up on the Virb site as well. As for the next couple months, we're going to lay low and write/record a bunch of songs for a new 12" record that will hopefully be coming out on Hardisty-Disk in June.
• Terrorclops is also getting ready for a Hardisty-Disk release...a 7" re-press of the "We Don't Call Cops We Cut Throats" with a previously unreleased B-side and awesome screenprinted sleeves. That will be coming out in March, and odds are pretty good that we'll end up with some copies of it to sell over here as well.
• decembers architects are still broken up. The cd packaging for ", apiary..." was picked to appear in Print Magazine's 2006 Regional Design Annual, which is pretty flattering. Aside from that, the post-decembers architects band Les Ourses has been playing some shows here and there and hopefully getting ready to do some recording.
• Other news...we might get together some short-run cdr releases of some recordings we've been sitting on for a while, mostly old bands that broke up before getting a chance to put stuff out. We'll see about that, I guess.
Oh, and we might do a pretty big overhaul on this site fairly soon...the format we used for the Landland site is a lot easier to update, which would be good for everyone. Ok. That's all. Thanks for hanging out.

Friday, 04 August 2007: Another tiny update about everything in general...
.........................................................................................................................................................................................................
Hey! We haven't really done a lot with the label stuff lately...nothing really huge on the horizon, but our bands are all up to good things, so here's some news on that:
• Best Friends Forever are on tour RIGHT NOW! They have been for most of the summer. To help out with things, we made a short-run tour cd-r that they're selling at the merch tables, along with posters and probably a lot of other really great things. They should also have a NEW FULL LENGTH CD out soon on Plan-It-X Records. It's called "Romance Conflict Adventure" and it's great.
• Everybell & Whistle have been playing shows around Mpls/STP, most notably the CHARLES DE GAULLE last show/cd release party thing at Big V's at the end of July. We should have photos of that up eventually, but probably won't. EVERYBELL is also going to be on tour for a little over a week in September. We're still trying to pin down shows in Milwaukee and Atlanta and Columbus, Ohio, so if anyone reading this can help out, send an email our way.
• Terrorclops has a few shows coming up. Do the MySpace thing to find out about those. Jacob from Everybell is playing drums in TERRORCLOPS now, so it's better. Serious.
• decembers architects are still broken up. Not playing shows, not releasing anything. We still have copies of the first printing of the ",apiary, ennui and curiosas. The brew shakes" cd, so get on that if you want it. The packaging is kinda a lot to deal with, printing/assembly-wise, so we're thinking that later printings might be reworked so that they're not as involved...making the first 300 a sorta "limited deluxe-ish-type thing," if you want to look at it that way. The rest will still be hand-printed and all of that, but maybe just not as ridiculous with all the pieces and inserts and everything.
• Other news...the "Mammalian" compilation is back alive and happening again...it really doesn't make sense to press a million of these things though, so we're probably going to make it a run of 200–250 cd-rs.
That's all we've got for now. Oh, and as a sidenote, we have a new screenprinting space called Landland. We've been working on it all summer, making walls and sinks and things like that. Soon there will be an internet webpage about it and all of the posters and miscellaneous stuff we've been making. So yeah, there's that.
Peace.

Friday, 11 January 2007: A tiny update about everything in general...
.........................................................................................................................................................................................................
Ok. The holidays are over, so now we can all get back to work. Here's what's going on with all of us at Say & Stay Said:
• Best Friends Forever have been playing a bunch of shows around the cities, and getting ready to record a new full-length cd (we'll keep you posted about that as we figure stuff out). They also recorded a song for an upcoming compilation for the Belfry here in Minneapolis.
• Everybell & Whistle have been playing a little bit here and there, but kinda laying low while working on new songs and things. Also, Jacob graduated from college this past December, which is pretty great. They are working on possibly putting together some stuff for a limited-run 3" cd-r release sometime in the next couple months.
• Terrorclops (which is actually just Dan Black) has been playing shows with the band Thank You, which features the invincible Joe Rizzo and Croix Clayton (of HTIKTRI fame) and sometimes a bunch of other great people. The Thank You/Terrorclops band recently played on Radio K's "Now Like Photographs" instrumental music program...we'll have photos and soundstuff from that up here soon.
• decembers architects are still broken up.
• Other news...the "Mammalian" compilation is still in the works, hopefully it won't be totally dated by the time it comes out. There's a ton of amazing stuff that will end up on there, and almost all of it is exclusive to the compilation, so hopefully we'll get our act together and get this thing out.
• The Birthmark 7" mentioned way back isn't coming out anymore. More details on that will be coming soon, but everything will be ok in the end, we promise.
• The last little bit of news, is that we only have four copies of the BFF / Everybell split 7" left. We took the Paypal button off the ordering section, but if you want one of these last copies, send us an email and if there are any left, we'll get one out to you. We might put mp3s up or do some kind of cd-r thing or something in the future, but we definitely won't be repressing the vinyl.
Ok. That's everything for now. Happy New Year...hopefully this year we'll update the website more than four times.

Tuesday, 15 August 2006: decembers architects CD available NOW / BFF is on tour right NOW / We're moving soon, but not NOW
.........................................................................................................................................................................................................
First things first, THANK YOU 1,000,000 to the people that showed up at the Hexagon Bar for the big CD release show!!! It was super fun, and I guess a little bit more scandalous than we had expected, courtesy of the boys at Modern Radio. It was totally great to see so many old friends in one place, and the decembers architects set totally bridged the gap since the last time they'd played, right up to the point that things got cut short. So yeah, hooray for you guys, and if you missed it, you missed out.
Also along those lines, the decembers architects CD is available in our "ordering" section NOW, so pick up a copy and show off to your friends. It'll be in some stores around Minneapolis/St. Paul soon, and if you're planning on checking out Joan of Arc or Make Believe on tour through the end of the year, Nate K. will have a bunch of copies on hand at those shows as well.
Speaking of tours (this is the segue update...), the Best Friends Forever & Friends band is out on the road RIGHT NOW. It's the East Coast "Fun Size" tour with new friends Bobcats. Monday, 31 July 2006: decembers architects CD Release Show Information!!!
.........................................................................................................................................................................................................
It's official. The CD release show/party/thing for the ridiculously long-awaited decembers architects full length is happening. Here's what we've got for you:
Sunday, 13 August 2006 (Two weeks away!!!) at the Hexagon Bar--2600 27th Ave South, in the lovely Seward Neighborhood of Mpls.
The bands will start at 10:30 sharp! This is a 21+ ID show, but the good news is, it's FREE!
The lineup:
decembers architects!!! (they're playing a super special, one-time only "reunion" show to celebrate the release of ,apiary ennui and curiosas. The brew shakes).
Everybell and Whistle
Les Ourses
Fiery Fire
and Birthmark
This has been pointed out elsewhere, but all of the bands that are playing are post-decembers architects projects. Another noteworthy bit of news about this show is that all of the money from the bar will be going towards helping Nate Kinsella with the insanely high legal fees he's ended up with after some stuff that happened at a Make Believe show last year (For people that can't make it to the show, but want to help, you can find out how at joanfrc.com).

Saturday, 17 June 2006: More news about new stuff, Everybell shows...
.........................................................................................................................................................................................................
So, ok. Here's the deal. I know that I've said this stuff before, and I promised to not say it anymore, but we're going to have the decembers architects cd out by the second week in August. We're also going to have a big cd release show for it, and it's going to be great, and everyone should go to it.
"How can you have a cd release show for a band that doesn't play shows?" you ask, "Wouldn't that just be one of those kinda cheesy 'listening parties' where nobody plays, and everyone just sits around listening to the cd they're about to buy, drinking beer and talking over it and stuff?"
No.
This isn't going to be like that. I've never even been to one of those. We're still pinning down the details, but what we do know, is that we're going to have a whole bunch of post-decembers architects bands, including Everybell & Whistle, Les Ourses, Fiery Fire and a super special Birthmark performance. For people that might not know, Birthmark is the solo-ish project of Nate Kinsella, who used to play drums and stuff for decembers architects. He's currently one of the invincible forces behind Chicago's Make Believe, as well as Joan of Arc. Both bands have notoriously busy touring/recording/etc. schedules, so it'll be really nice to have Nate back here for a little while.
Also related to that, is that we're going to try to have the Birthmark 7" out around the same time too...Nate sent me the recordings a while ago, and we're about ready to get the vinyl pressed and all of that, so it should work out.
There are also a couple Everybell shows in the works as well. We're still working on details, but there's a pretty good chance that the first show since last August will be at the Red Sea on July 11th with a band called History. There will also be some shows later on in the summer with Mute Era and Best Friends Forever, and we're hoping to get a short tour together for the last week in August, before school starts up again.
If anyone can help out with getting shows anywhere east of Minneapolis, email me or send a MySpace message. It would really help out a lot.
Oh, and we've kinda got a rough little Say & Stay Said MySpace page up. There's not a lot of information up yet, but I'm guessing that soon it'll be a good place to find out about shows or other information that doesn't make it onto this site in a timely fashion. So, befriend us, and watch us blossom into a beautiful young woman.
Thanks to all the people that came out to the last couple Best Friends Forever shows! It was a super good time, and if you missed it, hopefully you'll get a chance to see their new songs and stuff sometime this summer, or when they go on tour in August.

Thursday, 01 June 2006: Brientering the Bratmosphere LIVE!!!
.........................................................................................................................................................................................................
Hi Fans.
This is Bri. On this, the first day of June, I just want to announce the arrival of a blockbuster summer. and in case you are not sure how to start your summer off right...
Here is a suggestion. My solo act called Brientering the Bratmosphere will be performed this coming Wednesday June 7th at Big V's with:
SPORTS
digshoveldig
(these bands are from Asheville, North Carolina....and sound really really fun!)
and also Bob from Your Loving Tiger and Trimmed Hedges will also be playing.
It is going to be really fun, and full of fun people enjoying the musical summertime vibe. you won't want to be left out of this.
There will be Brientering the Bratmosphere tapes for sale, and the double faced crocheted mask. and German flags galore. and cute southern boys galore.
I hope to see you there....no later then 9 pm.
Okay also. real quick....It is now official that BFF will be playing at the Turf Club on June 14th and at the Hexagon Bar on June 15th (with Scream Club from Portland)
We'll be sending you another email about that one next week though. Most importantly...is this wednesday. June 7th.
Jes will write the next mass email and it will be a lot more fun to read. I'm kind of in a dull mood right now. (i need my coffee!! j/k.....) ( give me the coffee and no one gets hurt!)
love,
Bri

Wednesday, 24 May 2006: The semi-annual SSS update!!! Hooray!!!
.........................................................................................................................................................................................................
Hi.
Hope your summer's going alright so far, and that finals weren't too tough and all of that. What's up? Here's what's up with us (in no decent order at all):
1. We did a little bit of spring cleaning as far as the site is concerned. Not much, mind you, but now we've got one of those pull-down menu bar things to navigate with, along with some other stuff. That's boring news.
2. We put up a bunch of non-SSS released stuff for sale. We now have some copies of the Terrorclops "We don't call cops..." business card cd-r on Hardisty Disk, as well as the last copies of the self-released Terrorclops "Bitefight" cd-r in the store section. The Hardisty Disk release is a five-minute burst of tiny chops and edits and tons of thick layers, with amazing packaging designed by Sparky Hardisty at M-V-A. The "Bitefight" cd-r is kind of a collection of various bits and pieces from 2003–2005, covering everything from meticulous micro-edited glitchy loop compositions to 10+ minute "live" tracks.
3. We also put up the Ion Survival 7" as well. A few people know about this, but for those that don't, Ion Survival was Jacob and Dan's (of Everybell & Whistle) high school band. They put out this record, and, predictibly, ended up with a box or two of these things sitting in Dan's mom's basement. So now they're here. This is a lot more melodic than the Everybell stuff. People that were (or are?) into stuff like Texas is the Reason or old Samiam might like this.
4. Bri from Best Friends Forever has a tape out now called Brientering the Bratmosphere. It's all about her trip to Germany last year and it's pretty sweet. We'll have copies of it here soon, but in the meantime, you can email BFF (see contact section) and get it directly from them. Other than that, the Best Friends Forever and Friends are practicing and writing songs so they can tour all over this summer. Jes has officially moved back to Minneapolis from Milwaukee, so they'll probably be playing some shows around the Twin Cities in the coming months. We'll try to keep you posted.
5. Some people have been asking about the decembers architects full-length cd, ",apiary ennui and curiosas. The brew shakes." Looking back at all of the tiny updates about it on this site, we're a little embarrassed about all the tentative release dates and all of that. The truth of it is, the production end of the label is usually limited to a couple people at best, so sometimes things go pretty slowly around here. It shows, I know. The other truth though, is that this thing was recorded something like six years ago, so hopefully another month or so won't hurt anything. We'll have more information about it, and maybe even a real "release date" up here as soon as we get it figured out. Thanks for continuing to be patient.
6. Some good news though, is that we finally have all of the tracks in for the upcoming compilation cd that we're working on with our friends at Home Taping is Killing the Record Industry. The cd will be out sometime this summer, has no title as of yet, and will feature pretty much exclusive songs from:
Andrew Broder (of Fog) & George Cartwright
Artifact Shore
Birthday Suits
Birthmark (of Make Believe / Joan of Arc)
the Blackthorns
Bravo Team
Chariots (ex-Song of Zarathustra)
DJ Columbian Necktie
Everybell & Whistle
the Gamut
Gay Beast
Josh S. & the Selfawarelessness
Knifeworld
Les Ourses (ex-decembers architects)
Mute Era
People Dick (of Make Believe / Joan of Arc, etc.)
Terrorclops
Thank You
Timothy Cronin
Woodcat
Woodpecker
We'll have some more information about that pretty soon, I swear.
7. We also have a few more releases planned for the summer/fall, including a 3 (or 4?) song cd-r debut from Fiery Fire (Mark from decembers architects' new band) and a 7" from Birthmark, which (like with everything else...) we'll have more information about soon.
8. Everybell and Whistle has a new bass player! It's Mark Swoverland (the same Mark from the paragraph above this one), so get ready for Everybell to be just that much awesomer once they start playing shows again in a month or so.
9. Lastly, we'd like to point out that all of the Say & Stay Said bands/people/etc. have MySpace pages now. Hopefully this isn't a bad idea. Anyway, you should be our friends and listen to songs and find out about shows and all of those other things that MySpace people like to do. The links for those things are on the Mp3s part of the site, not with all of the other links, for some reason.
Ok. That's a bunch of stuff.

If you would like to look at old and irrelevant news for some reason, here it is:
.........................................................................................................................................................................................................
